“True happiness comes from squandering ourselves for a purpose.” – John Mason Brown

One of the main reasons why people find themselves unhappy in life is due to the fact that they have not found their true purpose.

There are many individuals who still feel desolate in spite of all their achievements, recognition, affluence and possessions combined.

This is why it is so essential to reframe our perspectives so that we can find our bigger purpose in life sooner than later.

Our REFRAME Masterclass is a discovery programme that enables you to achieve greater clarity, capability and context around your purpose.

It can help reframe your experiences and successes to design the best life possible for you – a life which can be filled with joy, engagement and meaning.

The masterclass can be broken down into 4 simple steps for easier comprehension and today’s article will provide you with a little more information on the second step – Discovering your passion.

Discovering Your Passion

“Passion should be the fire that drives your life’s work.” – Michael S Dell, CEO Of Dell Technologies

The second step to our REFRAME programme is helping you find your passion in life. As was so brightly shared by Mr Dell, passion is the key to finding out what will light up your heart.

Passion can also help you find something to live or die for, and even make you feel motivated and energised to accomplish your goals everyday. As such, identifying and discovering your passion shows you why certain things matter to you more than others.

At StrengthsAsia, one of the methods we use is the SELFY framework to assist individuals with finding their passion in life. SELFY is an acronym that stands for the 5 questions you can ask yourself to identify the causes, issues or people that you are most passionate about. Here is a brief guideline.

S for Satisfaction

Question: What have you done that gave you immense satisfaction and pleasure?

If you were asked whether you would do something all over again, your answer would need to be “yes!”.

E for Excellence

Question: What is something that you have done or said in the past that has surprised you?

You would have felt amazed at how good you were at the task and asked yourself, “How did I do that?”

L for Learning

Question: What is it that you learn much quicker and much faster than anyone else in the room?

You would have noticed your ability to complete the task with absolute accuracy and top speed.

F for Flow

Question: What is something that you have done where you often lose track of time while engaged with, yet enjoyed every moment during the process?

Your dedication and level of concentration would be determining factors as you immerse in the flow of work.

Y for Yearning

Question: What have you always yearned to do but have never done as of yet?

Your inclination to set and achieve new goals while you work on your existing ones is a telling factor of your eager and yearning attitude.

In conclusion, as you complete the SELFY framework, your collection of responses from answering the 5 questions will provide you with some hints as to what your passion is and where it lies.

Focusing efforts into identifying your passion in life is crucial as it can reveal to you a multitude of reasons to keep learning and to work toward mastery.

As philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel once said, “Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion”.
